There's this particular brand of hypnagogic phenomenon that feels like a torrent of fluid data streaming directly into ones brain. It's hard not to feel like a conduit. But unlike traditional hallucinations, which appear to be happening to you, hypnagogic visuals play out safely behind your eyelids.

Visual hypnagogic hallucinations tend to take the form of patterns, faces, or objects that move across the visual field with no control from the person experiencing them.

Many people report slideshow-type sequences of individual images, flashing from object to object, often with some sort of free association connection between objects. Abstract patterns are common, which often move, rotate, or transform.
